Welcome to TTBO's Online Home!

We’re thrilled to connect with you through our new blog, where you can follow the work we’re doing to conserve Trinidad and Tobago’s unique birdlife and ecosystems. TTBO was founded with a single purpose in mind: to protect and study our avifauna while fostering a community that values conservation and environmental stewardship. Every day, our team is driven by a passion for our natural environment and a commitment to protecting it, and we’re excited to share that journey with you. If you’re passionate about wildlife and want to make a positive impact, you’re in the right place.
What We Do at TTBO
TTBO is at the forefront of avifauna conservation in Trinidad and Tobago. Our main focus is on bird banding, a method that allows us to monitor bird populations, study their movements, and collect critical data on bird health and habitat use. By understanding these patterns, we can contribute to conservation strategies that help protect species at risk and preserve biodiversity for generations to come. In addition to bird banding, our work extends to environmental education, and community outreach, helping to raise awareness about the importance of conservation in our islands.
Projects We're Working On
We’re excited to share some of our recent projects with you! Currently, TTBO is leading a banding program that tracks both local and migratory bird species, providing valuable data on bird population trends. This year, we celebrated an exciting milestone by completing our first banding season as an organization, with hundreds of birds safely tagged and released, thanks to the support of our community and partners. We are opening the new season with a new agenda, year round banding and monitoring! Additionally, we working on a youth outreach initiative, partnering with local schools to engage young minds in conservation education and fieldwork. So far it’s been incredibly inspiring to see the next generation get involved and show interest in preserving our natural heritage. We are also working on a land bird monitoring program, allowing us to capture valuable data on demographics and building trends using the point count method. We are working on this program with our partners in flight, BirdsCaribbean
